The german magazine Gamestar is the first magazine in the world to publish a pre-test for Elex 2. The review is available for Gamestar Plus members. They played through an almost finished version for 60 hours and draw a preliminary conclusion: they praise a great deal of freedom of choice, flying with the help of the jetpack, a more motivating character system than in Elex 1 and the usual exciting exploration and great world design. In addition, the combat system and balancing have improved and the pre-release build hardly has any bugs.

However, the Gamestar criticizes that the story runs out of steam in the second half and that the game degenerates into constant fighting towards the end. In addition, the combat system is sometimes still clunky and the graphics are a bit dated apart from the beautiful lighting effects. In particular, some faces and the draw distance are among the points of criticism. The Gamestar awards a rating tendency of 80 to 82 percent. This is less than the predecessor (85%) because time has moved on and expectations have increased. There is also a Gamestar Plus exclusive video in which they explore the game world with the jetpack.
